Boathouse

BCNS

Our waterfront home is located at 54R Merrimac St., Newburyport

BOAT CAMP Nature School literally is a one room schoolhouse,  a boathouse, located right on waterfront at Hilton’s Marina, in the same building as PI Coffee Roasters and just to the left of the Black Cow Tap and Grill. While we are on the look-out for additional indoor space in which to grow, we are grateful to spend most of our time along the waterfront,  afloat exploring the river and Gulf of Maine, and ashore at various field sites and conservation lands, including our private field site in Newbury at Four Rock.

Inside the boathouse, we host birthday parties, toddler classes, and many of our summer programs begin and end each day here. Waterfront pedestrians love to stop in and visit our 150-gallon saltwater touch tank, which is open to visitors whenever programs are not in session. The animals in the tank are locally collected by kids in our programs and commercial fishermen, and all are saltwater organisms that are native to the area. The animals change as we release those that have been with us for a while and introduce new ones. Typically we have a few lobsters, blue mussels, periwinkles, sea urchins, hermit crabs and mummichogs.

All are welcome to visit and admittance is always free, though donations are always appreciated!
