Ocean Education Center
All programs begin inside our education center at 54 Merrimac St., Newburyport. (Right next door to Plum Island Coffee Roasters.)
Our center features a 110-gallon saltwater touch tank, which is open to visitors whenever programs are not in session. The animals in the tank are locally collected, saltwater organisms that are native to the area. The animals change as we release those that have been with us for a while and introduce new ones. Typically we have a few lobsters, blue mussels, periwinkles, sea urchins, hermit crabs and sea stars. This winter we also have a school of minnows that we adopted from Mass. Audubon’s Joppa Flats center.
All are welcome to visit, and admittance is always free, though donations are always appreciated.
