Intro to New England Surfing, April 17, 9 a.m. to noon
Join BOAT CAMP crew as we look at the science behind surfing in New England during this Saturday morning workshop. We’ll learn about tides, boards, gear, wind and waves as it relates to coastal northeast Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Also included will be surfing etiquette, best practices and where to go for further instruction.
Instructors: Steve Sofronas and Rob Yeomans. Rob teaches marine science at Newburyport High School. Steve teaches at Hamilton Wenham High School, and is an avid surfer along the NH coast as well as abroad. Time: 9 a.m. to noon. Register online or call to reserve.

Boating on the Merrimack River Class
May 28 & June 4, 2010
In partnership with Newburyport Adult Education, join Capt. Rob and Kate who will share their knowledge of local boating on the Merrimack River. The morning will introduce the principles of basic coastal navigation and the science behind it—tides, currents, wind, and waves—as well as suggested day trips to nearby harbor destinations.The afternoon will be aboard the Erica Lee.We’ll tour the navigable lower Merrimack River and the river entrance while we observe the local landmarks and tidal phenomena. Practice hands-on navigation and boat handling. No prior boating experience required.
