Plum Island Teens
Our Plum Island Teen program will be held July 9-13, 2012. Kids ages 12-15 welcome!
We’ll spend the week on the water exploring various places along Ipswich Bay, including the Isles of Shoals with a day-long visit to Star Island. Additional activities include fishing for a variety of species using traditional New England methods, haulingĀ lobster traps, bottom sampling, tidepooling, exploring sandy beaches and mud flats, and staying cool!
Interested in being a marine biologist? Try it out when we spend a half-day studying the intertidal zone at Sandy Point as part of a regional effort to document biodiversity using Nagisa protocol. Data gathered will then be uploaded to an international database used by researchers world wide, known as OBIS. In the fall, BOAT CAMP teens will be invited to participate in an Teen Ocean Summit at the New England Aquarium with other teens from around New England as part of a NOAA-funded grant, “Summer Science in New England.” You can read more here!
