Program Overview

“It is probably time that we looked around us instead of looking ahead….
and learn to be quiet part of the time and acquire not the sense of ownership but of belonging.” —Wallace Stegner

BOAT CAMP’s marine and environmental education programs are the heart of what BOAT CAMP Inc. is all about. We celebrate the sea and hope to inspire sound stewardship of the ocean to enhance the quality life in the greater Newburyport community. Our programming is based on a foundation of respect for learners of all abilities and ages, respect for traditional ways of harvesting and understanding New England fisheries, and respect for the importance of environmental sustainability as it relates to the health of the ocean.

Our environmental education curriculum is connected to state and national frameworks, the principles of ocean literacy, and a pedagogy that emphasizes hands-on, place-based, experiential learning. We endeavor to lay the foundation for all of our participants to understand the ocean’s influence on them and their influence on the ocean.
